At present the installation and management of current traffic signal lights depend heavily on special line. The installation and management of new traffic signal lights system need re-excavation and wiring, which caused great waste of resources. In remote districts and some temporary traffic control area, it's difficult to erect the special line. Besides, the erection of the special line need expensive data collector. The entire system cost is too high. To overcome the shortcomings and defect of current control system, we propose a new traffic light control system based on WSN, which connect each traffic light via wireless and reduce the system cost.Firstly, the paper introduced the origin, development and the key technologies. It also introduced several typical traffic light control system and analyzed the shortcomings of these traffic signal light control system.Secondly, the paper introduced the hardware and software of the traffic signal light control platform based on WSN. Meanwhile, it also designed the coordinator node and traffic light control node with the MCU pic18F4620 and the CC2420,which connected the host computer via RS232. We analyze the wireless protocol of ZigBee and modify the protocol according to the traffic signal light control system. We designed the WSN traffic light control platform with the wireless protocol, which connected each traffic light.Thirdly, the paper introduced how to compile the management software with VC++6.0.The computer can communication with the MCU with the software. The computer can send the control parameters (Phase and cycle) to the coordinator node, which realized the control of the traffic light node.At last, the paper designed the fuzzy control system with the fuzzy control theory. The paper get the parameters of the control system with the fuzzy control system and realize the intelligent control of the traffic light control system. Simulation study is made with MATLAB 6.5. From simulation result it can conclude that the algorithm is effective.
