According to the calibration requirements of the maintenance and test equipment of special vehicles', an automatic calibration system is developed based on an architecture combining PXI bus and GPIB bus in this article. By utilizing bus technology, this universal calibration platform realizes the goal of one platform with a variety of calibration, and guarantees the accuracy, reliability and effectiveness in value transmission through special vehicles and test equipment.Firstly, an investigation was conducted to acquire the calibration needs of the grassroots realities of the army. According to the diversity of calibrated devices, the wide range of parameters, and a limited funds, the object define principles, the calibration objects, the calibration principles, the overall design ideas and the top-level function are determined. According to the diverse calibration needs of special vehicles, an architecture combining PXI bus and GPIB bus is introduced to develop the automatic calibration system.Secondly, this article makes detailed study and design on both the hardware and the software of the integrated auto-calibration system. On the hardware integrated design aspects, considering the possibility of hardware implementation, complexity, reliability, price, and other factors, the top-level integration hardware solutions of the calibration system is determined, and a detailed design of chassis, bus type, equipment selection and connection methods of standard modules is proposed. Because this system is mainly related to calibration the parameters of electromagnetic and radio signals, the hardware design makes an enhancement in the anti-jamming performance and thus improve the system reliability. On the software design aspect, based on universal, modular, standardized design ideas, using signal-oriented thinking method, combined with the virtual instrument technology, the VC++ programming language is utilized to develop the system software and each functional module. By using technologies such as system access of login password, watchdog, and data redundancy, the software reliability is increased.At last, the system is applied to calibrate some universal test equipment (such as digital millimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) and special test equipment, and the calibrated result is processed automatically by the system. Romanowski criterion is used in data processing to remove outliers and eliminate careless error. The calibration process verifies the calibration functions of the developed system. Test results show that the system has the advantages of simply manipulation, reliable performance, and hard stability, and fulfills the value transmission needs of the maintenance and test equipment of special vehicles'.
