CMOS technics is mainstream technics in VLSI, which owns high integration and integrates many functions into one chip. CMOS image sensor consists of image array logic registers, row drivers, timing generation and logic control, A/D converter and so on. Because of all the imaging function completed in one chip, CMOS image sensor not only reduces the power, but also owns light weight, small room and low cost, which is compared with CCD image sensor. The paper maily discusses how to design one kind of PC camera that has good capability and imaging quality, including to design the hardware circuit and software programe for displaying video on the computer . At the same time, we also discuss particularly the camera application on face detectionFirstly, the paper analyses the performance theory of camera, and designs the composing of camera's hardware circuit. After doing the layout of the whole design, we use the modularization design to depart the whole system into several modules. Accroding the composing of hardware circuit, we should choice suitable parts, and complete the circuit board PCB product. After debugging, the result have reached the anticipated effect.Secondly, the paper needs to compile programme about PC graphical interfaces,and communicate with USB, access to image data. And then, it is necessary to process the image data for resuming 24 bits ture color image. Moreover, we completes the target of displaying the processed image in real-time.Finally, the paper mainly introduces the research and development of the PC camera in face detection. Basing on finished product of hardware and software, we design on software to complete the PC camera's face detection. In this paper, I have detaily introduced the whole processing of the PC camera's development and testing, including hardware and software design. Experiments have proved that the hardware design of camera is stable and reliable, which has completed the design's requirement. Camera's application in the face detection is completed, which is mainly done by the way of software. The location of face is precise. The speed of processing is up to 18fps, which can satisfy with the real-time requirement of the camera face detection system.
