With the progress of science and technology, development of computer technology and virtual reality technology, Design and development producted by computer has become a research focus in current manufacturing information. With virtual prototyping technology, people can save development costs significantly and Shorten development cycle by virtual simulation of product design. Therefore, It has important significance that research on virtual prototyping technology in the Manufacturing IndustryAccording as Virtual prototyping technology, based on OpenGL, I developed a virtual simulation design platform for helmet mounted sight(HMS) in the MFC framework, which can simulate LEDs' arrangement process during HMS design process, calculate sighting-line direction combined of visual measurement principle and simulate the process of sighting-line aiming through the virtual environment. It is the key issues that research and discuss the theory and technology involved in the design platform for the simulation.Firstly, this paper elaborates the application background of HMS and the types as well as the positioning principle of HMS that are currently widely used. For example, photoelectric, electromagnetic, ultrasonic, laser type and image recognition type. This paper emphatically introduced the positioning principle of HMS based on image recognition.Secondly, this paper discussed the positioning principle of HMS that based on visual measurement, summed up the principle of visual measurement and elaborated the method of camera calibration that used in this object. this paper gave the equation of sighting-line based on visual measurement under conditions of monocular camera by Combining structural characteristics of LEDs.. Through analyzing the mathematical model of the measurement camera and imaging principle of OpenGL, this paper proved the correlation and consistency between the measurement camera imaging and OpenGL imaging. Meantime, the parameters correlation has been given, which proved that we can do experimental study on visual measurement through simulating measurement camera by OpenGL virtual camera. This paper studied the theory and technology involved in simulation design platform. and gave the algorithms and realization method, include building OpenGL environment in the MFC framework, reading and loading the complex 3DS model under OpenGL environment, obtaining helmet feature images and extracting feature points in virtual environment, as well as deriving mathematical model of sighting-line calculation according to visual measurement and giving solution algorithm, which provided theoretical basis and algorithm foundation for the design and development of simulation platform.Finally, this paper designed the virtual simulation platform and gave system design framework and components. The author designed system user interface in accordance with the requirements of convenient, intuitive and easy-to-use. Meantime, the paper displayed the function of the platform with examples. The functions include: location of HMS display in virtual environment, arrangement LEDs, sighting-line calculation and the design results output.This platform demonstrates that this system has good scalability and achievability. Through the research on the subject of visual measurement based on OpenGL, we can put the theories of research applied to other virtual prototype design.
