Prototype design a testing is an indispensable stage of any project development in many fields of activity. Scientists and engineers rely on prototyping for a visual confirmation and validation of design and concepts.Since the 1990', accompanied with the fast technology development of computer and Contemporary Integrated Manufacturing System, virtual prototypes have been playing an important role in the process of product design and manufacture, instead of the physical mock-ups.This paper explored some of the key technologies in realizing a system under a distributed condition, which can be a platform for prototyping virtual systems. Firstly, we briefly review the history of virtual prototyping development. Then present some software technologies and related algorithm theory in realizing the system named Premium. It is web-based, with an interactive 3D human-computer interface for virtual prototyping. We defined/ the whole system with two main components. This structure can simplify the definition of distribution patterns effectively. In order for solids to exhibit assembly-awareness, we modified the schema for XML files by include solid feature tags. Finally, we propose a use of genetic algorithms in order to define behaviors for articulated objects so that we can manage in a very homogeneous way, interactions with fully constrained articulated objects.
