With the rapid development of the computer network technology, video surveillance systems are now in transition stage from the Digital Video Surveillance System represented by digital video recorder (DVR) to network video surveillance system represented by the network video server (NVS), network cameras (IP Camera). In this transitional phase, the vast majority of applications are mixed with digital and network-based system. Compared to digital video surveillance, IP protocol-based network video surveillance system can build a larger, more complex, more flexible, more expansive application system. the core part of the system is a set of intelligent video surveillance management software with a broad compatibility and a high degree of integration ,which will link up monitoring system and computer network/information management system, so that two mutually independent systems are moving toward integration, thus realizing integration of the triple network (data, voice and video images).In the network video surveillance systems, transmission of audio and video streaming is based on the IP network. In the presence of a large number of audio and video streaming, how to achieve the audio and video data storage, and how to manage of retrieval and playback of video files are important issues.Therefore, in this paper, the storage technology in the network video monitoring system is discussed and the design and realization of audio-video storage server software is put forward. The video storage server software meets the TCP/IP protocol, and is scalable of SIP protocol. The data storage format is the MPEG4 video encoding format, with the image resolution of CIF or D1.The software supports the duplex network mode of image storage and playback, supports the 32-way simultaneous real-time video archiving features and up to 32 users at the same time on-line retrieval of historical data, based on a variety of ways, such as images of the source, recording time, alarm and other types of events.
