Photoelectric color sorter is a sort of effective separation equipment used in quality detection and classification of granular material. It is widely used in the industries of food, pigment and so on. Currently, photoelectric color sorters with foreign brands have occupied most of the domestic market; however, those developed independently in our country also have found applications progressively in the recent years. The photoelectric color sorter is a typical system of mechatronics, so the research and development of control system is the main part in the innovative design of it and also the key technology in deciding the working performance of it.The subject is aimed to develop new and intelligent control system of photoelectric color sorter to solve the main technical problems existing in the domestic products by studying the advanced technology adopted in the foreign products of the kind, the main task of which is to design the control system and implement it. Based on the investigation of the configuration and working principle of photoelectric color sorter, a control system in the master-slave mode controlled by double CPU is designed. ARM is employed as the master CPU to control the whole system and DSP as the slave CPU to operate the photoelectric detecting signal, thus form the double CPU structure which can perform a variety of data manipulations and control functions of the control system corporately in order to enhance the whole performance of system and increase the rapid processing capacity of data. Meanwhile, fuzzy-PID control technology is used to achieve self adjustment so as to improve the color sorting performance of system. Many aspects involved in the development of control system such as minimum system and resource allocation of ARM LPC2141 and DSP VC5409, software and hardware realization, algorithm of controlled quantity, influencing factors of the performance and so forth are well considered and detailed design is made. The designed control system can be integrated with the domestic multi-channel color sorters.
