With the rapid technology development and the fierce market competition, mass customization (MC) has been a tendency in product manufacture. Product configuration(PC) is one of the key technology for product fast customization in MC. In view of the need for its development and application, this paper will study how to encapsulate the knowledge of PC by object-oriented (OO) while taking the injection mould as the research object. Here the method of OO expressing PC knowledge, the interface extraction of instance solution process, how to construct components class encapsulation to realize the PC knowledge etc are mentioned as follows.(1) Study the PC theory, expert system knowledge, the PC knowledge acquirement, expression and usage under the Object-oriented technology.(2) Analyze the design knowledge, configurability of the mould and the encapsulating feasibility of PC knowledge, to get the features of the design of the mould customization, and the solution of configuration process will be divided into two steps. Clarify the relation among modular, product platform, product family, product family configuration model and product configuration model should be found out. The makeup structure of PFCM should be put forward to design the dependency relations between components class and instance process.(3) Research the method of design knowledge acquirement, represention, the mould knowledge including coustomer's requirements, the configuration design, is extracted. Use OO technology with the field to describe entityis value, its method to implicit rules, mapping into the formula, and with public methods of earch classes to realize configuration constrains, then the configuration knowledge has been presented.(4) Set up a product family encapsulation model (PFEM) based on previous researches, put forward the bottom-up design modeling procedure. Illuminate the necessity of configuring fact base, and the effect of fact base of configuration solving process. Then the construct method is proposed and the method of constructing the unit class is put forward with an example.(5) Build an optimized PFEM and a super class by using OO encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism on the basis of mould family. A method of solving function-structure mapping by using abstract factory pattern is provided.(6) Develop Web application configuration and design expert prototype system on the basis of the study of the above product configuration theories and technologies.
