With the scientific and technological advances and the rapid development of the network industry, the demand for the sharing of resources is growing in computer industry. Communications, aerospace, biotechnology and other high-tech field need large scale computing and data analysis capacity to support it. Local computing resources have been unable to meet this demand. On this basis, the generation of Grid technology can effectively solve the key problem of resource-sharing, and it can be widely applied in distributed supercomputing, high throughput computing, data-intensive computing and other fields.Grid, which has three characteristics of distribution, heterogeneity and dynamic, can provide enormous support for the computing and the resource sharing in many fields. But because of its technical characteristics, the resource management and job scheduling in Grid environment are more complex than that in the local environment. Based on the use of Grid technology as the support platform and the development environment of a network traffic identification tool, the design of effective scheduling mechanism is the key point to make the entire Grid system efficient, stable and has more capacity of expansion. With the reading of relevant literature of Grid computing and principles of its scheduling, the author of this paper designs a Grid scheduling mechanism for the identification of network traffic under the research backgrounds of "Traffic Identification System Based on GRID Technology" project, and implements the scheduling strategy and service development. This paper first introduces the background, features, architecture and development method. Then it details the Globus Grid platform and the functions of its resource management component. The design and implementation of the service modules of network traffic capture and protocol identification are presented. For the system characteristics and requirements, the paper proposes a Grid scheduling mechanism with the use of meta-scheduling framework and corresponding tools, shows the detailed design of the internal module and implements all service development and testing. At last, the paper summarizes the scheduling mechanism and gives further research objectives and direction of work.
