Grid, as a hardware and software infrastructure that provides dependable, consistent, pervasive and inexpensive access to the high-end computational resources, storage resources, communicational resources, software resources and device resources distributed in Internet, is applied in more and more areas such as science, education and commerce. In many projects, Globus as a network software infrastructure was accepted by every walk of life and became the actually standard and specification for its well scalability, stability, efficiency. Data Grid, as one of researches of Grid, is the foundation and core of other Grid services and is always attached attention.Firstly, the thesis discusses the necessity of the Data Grid research by analyzing and contrasting the international research status, and based on which the main technologies of Grid are presented through comparing the distributing computing, meta computing, peer-to-peer computing and web services. After that, the thesis analyzes and compares currently mature grid architecture, and discussed why choosing Globus as the basis. Next, through analyzing the GridFTP, Reliable File Transfer (RFT), Replica Location Service (RLS), Execution Management and Security in the Globus architecture, the features and shortcomings of Globus is pointed out. Combining the research results, the improvements about RLS and resource management of Globus are given and brought out Distributed Spanning Tree (DST) based RLS and agent based resource management model. The thesis later gives the essential design of the system and the detailed design and implement of the data grid portal. At last the function testing and performance simulation of the system is discussed.
