Digital signal processor (DSP) is an embedded microprocessor which is very suitable for digital signal processing. Because of becoming a key component in many multimedia appliances, communication devices, Higher performance is required. So it has more value on research and application. This thesis based on 600MHz ALU, researched the high performance DSP and realized 600MHz ALU. The main contributions are as follows.1) Analysed the ALU's function and relative instructions, then finished the module partion, logic design, function verification, synthesis analysis. Found the critical paths and critical modules. Studied synthesis optimized technologies, wrote successful RTL description, improved the ALU's architecture. Meanwhile supplied precise data for critical path setting timing target.2) Made the design scheme, critical executable unit custom design and coding unit semicustom design. Compared different circuits implement methods chose good performance speciality circuit to realize the critical module.3) In order to improve the 40-bit adder's capability of the critical module. Studied the advanced Sparse-Tree adder algorithm, and designed the circuit based on this architecture. Then modified it creatively so that to increase the circuit performance. Skew CMOS circuit is introduced to adder design, then realized the method of parallel leader 0/1 estimation and finished the circuit design, and finished the circuit of the ALU's execution stage.4) Researched the optimization of layout design. Brought up the skill of prejudge the channel routing, the architecture's unbinding, merging and the share of the channel routing. And finished the ALU's layout.5) We used the Nanosim tool to finish the functional, timing and power's analysis. The report turned out that the timing lag is 1.29ns, the power is 5.1mw, and the aim of 600MHz is achieved.
