In view of the characteristics of vibratory roller and the particularity of its working conditions, this thesis demonstrates the feasibility and the necessity of exploiting the vibratory roller fault diagnosis expert system (VRFD ES) on the basis of summarizing the development history of fault diagnosis. After introducing the necessary background knowledge, the thesis firstly presents the categorization of vibratory roller according to its structure, and by further classifying the structure of the system, the broken component can be located more rapidly and accurately. Besides, the thesis analyzes the fault of all levels of subsystems and components, then collects and reserves the diagnosis knowledge. By taking the advantage of the expert system in expressing and handling complicated knowledge, the thesis establishes a knowledge library of fault diagnosis expert system in the form of the ACCESS database. This database presents the collected fault diagnosis knowledge in the form of productive rules, and deposits the knowledge rules into the knowledge base established on the basis of database by way of forms. It makes a good use of the advantage of database management system in dealing with a great amount of information. As to the fault diagnosis, since the rules- based knowledge is stored in the database in form of list, all the key-fields in a list including entire diagnosis knowledge can enable the fault diagnosis to be realized by inquiring the key field. The database is linked by Visual C + + 6.0's MFC ODBC technology. The thesis designs a friendly man-machine interface so that users who are unfamiliar with the specific knowledge of the structure can accomplish the fault diagnosis of vibratory roller. The thesis gives an example of the system operation, which justifies the fact that the vibratory roller fault diagnosis expert system (VRFD ES) basically achieves its designed function.
