Carrier roller plays an important part of the belt conveyor,which is used tosupport the weight and freight,and it has been widely used in metallurgy,mining andchemical industry. As the result,the quality of the roller is vital for the life of the beltconveyor. This paper takes the automatic production line of roller as the research objectwhich consists of six main units,completing all the manufacturing work by configuringdifferent equipment. However,there is a problem in the line. There are many differentkinds of workshop equipment,and they are scattered distribution without monitoring.Once the machinery equipment occurs fault,and we can’t find out the fault locationquickly,it could cause very serious consequences.To solve the above problem,this paper proposes the overall design by combiningthe application of expert system in fault diagnosis,and develops an effective faultdiagnosis system by using Step-7and WinCC software. The diagnosis system can giveeffective solution based on the phenomenon through user-friendly interface so that itwould help the administrator alleviate his working strength, and even more importantis the direct effect that it can minimize the loss caused by faults to the enterprise.Author gathers and classifies all the fault spots which should bring damage to theline based on the analysis of process,and builds the knowledge base consequently. Forthe diagnosis of fault information, the design adapts central monitoring anddecentralized control mode,it is a combination of IPC(Industrial Personal Computer),PLC controller and advanced sensor for real-time status monitoring and control of theproduction workshop with the modern sensor and automatic control technology.Finally,the fault diagnosis system for roller production line which is tested by typicalfault cases,fulfills the central monitoring of workshop equipment and intelligentmanagement of fault information through ODBC database access technology by ADO.
