LIMS is the foundation of MES. It is mainly carries on the management to the laboratory quality inspection information and providing the qualitative data to MES high level modules. This paper is based on the software engineering theory, and use the software engineering methodology to elaborate the entire MES based Laboratory Information Management System design and implementation process in the local company of Petro China. This paper first carries on the analysis to the MES functional frame of Petro China, elaborated the function of LIMS in MES and the necessity of implementation of LIMS. Then take the local company of Petro China as example, carries on demand analysis and preliminary design. At last, the detailed design and implementation is also elaborated base on the MES entire functional structure, and the implementation result is analyzed.At present, MES based laboratory information management system (LIMS) is successfully applied in Petro China. The implementation standard laboratory's operation flow and the management system, have realized the automated movement, the informational management and the paperless work goal, raised the qualitative data information transmission speed, has realized the resource sharing, raised the laboratory working efficiency.
