Glass is the most based materials which constitutes various optical apparatus. The thickness of the glass is one of the important parameters, it will impact the good or bad of the glass quality and the glass apparatus and the performance of the optical instruments directly.By comparison and study a non-contact photoelectric inspecting technology that be used to measure the thickness of quartz glass tube was presented ,based on the CCD device's characteristic which is self-scanned, high-resolution, high-sensitivity and stabilization, and the on-line inspecting system in the thickness of quartz glass tube was developed. Furthermore, based on the inspecting general scheme, the measurement theory of the thickness of quartz glass tube, transmitting optical system, selection of CCD devices and data processing system were also developed. According to the law of reflection and the law of refraction in the Geometrical Optics, the relationship between the thickness H of the quartz glass tube and the beam width h is set up by using triangular relationship.Finally, debugging of the whole system structure and the analysis of the measurement error in the experimental results validated the scheme was feasible. the measurement accuracy excelled±0.005mm. Error analysis and actual measurement results showed the system meet the requirement of on-line and non-contact photoelectric inspecting.
