A Study On The Editorials About China On The Chinese Newspapers In Southeast Asia

The thesis studies the editorials on the typical Chinese Newspapers with great impact in four countries in Southeast Asia, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines, each of which owns a large population of overseas Chinese of more than a million, and sums up an attention focus and tendency of the viewpoints, aiming at a favorable international public opinion environment.The thesis has adopted quantitative analysis to study the editorials on the Chinese Newspapers in Southeast Asia, by analyzing themes, areas and attitudes, to be conscious of the focus and tendency. Textual Analysis is also adopted to contribute to the further interpretation of the themes in Content Analysis.The Introduction summarizes the background and significance of the study, viewing angle and methods, and reviews the related academic studies so as to state the creativity of the thesis. Chapter 2 introduces the main Chinese newspapers in Southeast Asia. Chapter 3 is the core of the study. It systematically studies the editorials about China on the newspapers, aiming to be aware of the focus and tendency. Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 are thematic analysis. Chapter 4 analyze the news reports about Chinese mainland, including interior issues, diplomatic issues and bilateral relations. Chapter 5 studies the reports about Taiwan, including the island's issues and Cross-Straits relation. The last chapter is conclusion and discussion.
