With the rapid development of wireless sensor networks (WSN) and the higher demands for the environment protection & supervision, the WSN technology is utilized by the enterprises in the environment monitoring system. The WSN is a self-organized distributed network system which is composed of a mass of tiny sensor nodes that has the sensation ability, the computation ability and the communication capacity. It synthesizes the sensor technology, the embedded computation technology, the modern network and the wireless communication technology and so on. It could monitor real-time, feel and gather cooperatively all kinds of information of environment or monitored object through various integrated sensors and transmit the information to user.The thesis introduces the related knowledge about the wireless sensor network and ZigBee technology, analyses ZigBee wireless technology protocol frame, investigates the function of different protocol layer and designs software and hardware platform. The hardware design of Coordinator,Router and Node, the development of the protocol frame and client application software are completed. The communication protocol of star-topology network and tree-topology is also designed in this thesis. The typical example of the wireless sensor network—environment monitoring system and the experimented results are presented, a temperature gathering and monitoring system is realized. The route protocol of wireless sensor network, low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy protocol and anti-collision arithmetic in wireless communication technology is analyzed and researched, and then we design the tree-topology network according to Zigbee Specification, which could monitor the nodes enter or exit the network and the data switch between coordinator and nodes and search the specified nodes by the client application software. The thesis designs the software and hardware platform according to the Zigbee Specification, applies the anti-collision arithmetic to Zigbee system and realizes tree-topology network according to LEACH protocol. This research provides a valuable reference to the application of WSN and Zigbee technology.
