Antenna selection in the MIMO system is a low-cost low-complexity alternative to capture many of the advantages of MIMO systems. It can select one or several best antennas from multiple transmitting and/or receiving antennas, and can reduce the expense with less performance loss and increase the performance-cost-ratio of MIMO system.In this thesis,the capacity of MIMO system and the related theory are introduced first, incuding the technology of coding and diversity.Then we introduce the technology of antenna selection and its category, method, and summarize several kinds of antenna selection algorithms, whose selection rule is to maximize the channel capacity. After studying these classical antenna selection algorithm, the analysis and simulation are introduced.Finally, it propose an improved antenna selection algorithm with low complexity for multiple-input multiple-output wireless systems. We consider the selection only at the receiver. The selection rule is to maximize the channel capacity. The selection algorithm based on Gorokhov's increase antenna selection and provides excellent performance. The simulation results show that,in comparison to the optimal algorithm, the suboptimal algorithm with less complexity can reduce great computation with a little loss of system capacity.
