The Challenge And Reconstruction Of The Gatekeeper Theory By The Net Media

Checking is a basic concept of the mass media. Since there are different types of information, disseminators always filters information according to his own point of view when communicating information with one anaother. The unlimited number of information sourses and the various means of network communication challenge the traditional ways of checking. This thesis first of all introduces the traditional theory of"checking", and then with a general discription of the characteristics of the network communication, that is, the compatibility, the digitalization, the interaction, the large capacity, the globlization, and the openness, it makes a conclusion that what the present checkers are doing nowadays. The traditional checkers in network media are now facing a dilemma that there is no standard to follow or there is too much to follow. And then this thesis generalizes the applied situation of network, analyzes the characteristics and disadvanges of network media in China and comes to a conclusion that the network challenges the traditional theory.Although the theory has been challenged, checkers in network communication are essential in the personal layer or in the media or nation's layer. And so finally, the thesis comes to the conclusion that how the improvement of the checking theory is achieved by net work communication in the neomedia age.
