| Library is an old industry, from the ancient to the modern, it has experienced ups and downs in the course of development. Today, with the popularity of networks and computers, information technology breakthroughs and the rapid development of information industry, libraries have been more and more close to the marginalized. The employees of library, whether ordinary or elite, have less faith of profession than ever before, and the career faith has inevitably shaken. Therefore, the librarians start looking for the meaning of existence. The process of establishing library core values is actually a process to discuss and discovery. Through exploring the most important career concept, librarians could maintain and promote their faith, and enhance the abilities of cooperation and competition between the library industry and other industries. Adopted for the discussion of the library core values, it will make people get a consensus on the basic professional concepts and have confidence in facing the challenges of the information age thereby.From the 20th century on early 80's, as the cornerstone of library profession and, exploring library core values had been an important problem to the library scholars. At that time, it is the period that the reform and opening up beginning, and there are many academic and cultural exchanges between our country and abroad. Many western culture spread into China,"postmodernism"is one of the most representative.The author takes the two subjects linked because these two issues were all started to research at the same background and it has the time identity. Moreover, the two subjects still have very important research values after 20 years development in China. Here, the author only wants to do a philosophical reading with the idea of postmodernism on the core value of the library briefly, so as to take more new ideas to the library and be able to solve the problem of lack of faith on library career.
