Nowadays,most of CAD software developers and CAD users have developed standard part libraries based on the CAD systems,which bring some convenience to designers.However,the standard part libraries can not support heterogeneous CAD system,which leads to an obstacle to communication of parts information and lack of share of parts resources.Based on the problems above,the part library supporting heterogeneous CAD system is studied principally in this paper and the application of variant design to part library is discussed in detail.The main contents of the paper are as follows:①The parts in part library are analyzed.According to structure feature of different parts in part library and existing part modeling methods,parameterized template modeling method is applied to standard parts modeling,and parameterized feature modeling method is used to similar parts modeling.②Approach to build heterogeneous part library is studied comprehensively. Based on the parts and the function demands of part library,heterogeneous part library is built through the special interface of CAD system.Then,the main framework of heterogeneous part library is designed.③Through research of part modeling technology based on feature, classification and description of the part shape features are completed.The feature information model of part is built and the relation between shape features is analyzed.All of work can provide theory preparation for feature modeling of part.④According to the research of variant design to parts,classified management of parts is the necessary foundation of variant design to parts.A classified method of similar parts based on Genetic Algorithm is gained on the basis of study of parts classified system,Clustering Analysis and Genetic Algorithm,and an example of shafts classifying is applied to ensure the validity of the classified method above.⑤Second development interface technology and designing method of part based on feature of Pro/E and UG are analyzed.Supporting module of part library is achieved through driving template files by using parameters with the UDF method which belongs to both Pro/E and UG,and the part library which supports heterogeneous CAD software is realized.
