Computer-aided product assembly model design is one of the core issues to product digital modeling and it is the key supporting technology of concurrent engineering and computer integrated manufacturing.Firstly, by analyzing the matters of traditional product assembly model design and reviewing domestic and international related researches, the paper puts forward the concept of the technology of product assembly modeling for Concurrent Design, defines the research contents and the basic ideas of concurrent design for the complex product assembly model;Secondly, this paper establishes the concurrent design process model for product and parts combining with the current researches on the method and key technique of concurrent design. Based on it, the design mode of assembly model is researched according to the demands of concurrent design, and the method of variant design is applied into assembly modeling process. Then the construct method and process of complex product assembly model for concurrent design are given based on analyzing the configuration and function of the product.In order to further define and simplify the process of product assembly modeling and to facilitate managing 3D digital models, the method for building the parts feature library based on knowledge engineering is researched, and a part/tool library and its management system is established.Finally, on the basis of product assembly model, the operation technique of tool in virtual maintenance process is researched; the tool positioning method based on feature is put forward; the position and operation of tool in virsual maintenance environment is realized. Then the tool operation sequence planning method and the evaluating index is discussed. The assembly/disassembly of product when using tools is analyzed, and then an account method of disassembly time when using tools is put forward based on traditional disassembly quantitative evaluation method.Through this research, it comes to the method system of product assembly modeling and simulation for concurrent design. And it lays a good foundation for the establishment of the virtual maintainability design and analysis system as well as other researches.
