The reserves of coal are rich in our country, but the environment of the coal mines is very complicated and various. Explosion accidents in coal mines occur from time to time. The flexibility of deployment for the existing wired monitoring system is not good and all regions of the coal mines can not be monitored very well. Thus, there are many blind areas, in which accidents may take place easily. To solve the problems, a WSN (wireless sensor network) with hierarchical topology for mine multi-parameter monitoring is proposed. As a supplement for exiting wired monitoring in coal mine, it can greatly enhance the monitoring of coal mine and improve the early warning level.Based on the characteristics of coal mine environment, the structure of hardware and routing mechanism of wireless sensor network with hierarchical topology for mine multi-parameter monitoring is designed. The network establishment process and the backup routing mechanism formation process are discussed. A new network address allocation method for back-up routing mechanism is designed using the Zigbee protocol. The experiments show that the network can work stability when the main router is broken since the back-up routing mechanism enhances the viability of the WSN network. Data is collected and transported using periodic monitor mode or interruptive mode. The interruptive mode can not only work independently to realize parameter over-limit alarm, but also work as supplementary periodic monitor mode to realize real-time monitoring. In addition, data collecting manage mechanism and network synchronization mechanisms are proposed to increase the flexibility and reliability of data collecting.In order to improve the stability and reliability of the network, the routing maintenance mechanism and fault management mechanism are designed. The routing maintenance mechanism is to ensure the stability the topology of network and the normal data transmission. The fault management mechanism can improve the survivability of network and keep the network running reliably and stably.WSN can communicate with wired monitoring system using the modbus protocol and a new monitoring system is formed in coal mine. What is more, the application of wireless sensor networks is extended by realization of interconnection between WSN and WiMAX network through gateway. The performance of wireless sensor network with back-up routing mechanism for mine multi-parameter monitoring is tested and analyzed in the dissertation. The experiments are carried out in the coal mine and the stimulating circumstance of coal lane. The results show that the performance of the network can meet the desired target. Multi-parameter monitoring and over-limit parameter alarm are realized and the back-up routing mechanism can work stably and reliably. At the same time, the interconnection between WSN and WiMAX network is realized and it works stably and reliably through gateway.
