The combination of computer technology and measurement instruments induce the appearance of a new kind of instrument—virtual instrument, by which all kinds of measurement systems can be set up fast and conveniently, and signal analysis, data processing, storage and graphic display can be finished by computers. Virtual instrument development environment is the technique basis of virtual instrument technology application and development, the symbol of that is graphic software programming methods and integrated development environment. In this thesis, the virtual measurement of electro-absorption controlled by computer software was introduced. Modern computer measurement was combined with control technology traditional instruments by GPIB interface setting based on PCI bus . And LabVIEW graphic programming language was used to modularize development. As a result, reliability and stability of measurement system were enhanced, and development cycle of software was shortened. Four function modules are included in the development of the system: I/O interface device initialization, data collection, data generation, data storage and icon display.PC control program of devices was written in LabVIEW language, and finally a measurement system with interactive graphic interface, convenient operation and high reliability was designed. This software system has the following functions: program control; monitoring test process; recording, collating and analyzing measurement results, i.e. processing data and then displaying or drawing and saving graphs; during measurement, the state of whole system can be seen by displaying test information on controle interface. After testifying, this measurement system based on virtual instrument technique could meet the needs of requirement, and the stability of the system is improved.
