With the wide-spread application of power electronics, harmonic contamination deteriorates more and more seriously nowadays. Based on power electronic switching components, using shunt active power filters (APF) is one effective way for harmonic automatic compensation. Via appropriate control, APF can compensate power system's harmonics, reactive power, voltage flash and unbalance. At the same time, its compensating effect is stable under the affection of power system's parameters variation, such as impedance variation and frequency variation.This paper firstly introduces the generation and harmfulness of the power system harmonics, and its solutions. Then, relative theories ahout APF are mainly introduced, including basic principles, main circuit topological structures, ip-iq theory which is based on the instantaneous reactive power theory, and control strategy about tracking compensating current. Based on the research on the theories about shunt APF, a physical simulator of three-phase four-wire shunt APF is constructed, which is cored with IPM module PM200DSA120, industrial compter and dual DSP. Based on Fujian EPRI's real time digital simulator (RTDS), the shunt APF, taking its own harmonic source, can be interconnected with RTDS.The main works about this paper include: first, main circuit parameters, circuit boards and control boards are designed desperately. Industrial control computer as the host computer, DPS2812Mv2 board as the main control board, and VC33PS board as the data acquisition board are designed for the control system. By switching, it is convenient for the APF working under single-phase mode or three-phase four-wire mode. Based on the platform MATLAB6.5, the simulation model about the shunt APF is designed, which takes the three-phase rectifier plus resistance as the harmonic source. Second, with the software Potel99SE, circuit boards are manufactured for the control system and its peripheral circuits. Third, the control programme of DPS2812Mv2 is written with CCS2000 and the interface programme is written with VC6.0. So, the APF physical simulator can modify its PI parameter timely. And it not only can monitor its working status, but also can do wave recording timely. Last, experiments such as harmonics and reactive power compensation, load surge response and interconnections with RTDS, are accomplished to verify some important conclusions.For APF, works of this paper not only provide an experimental platform for both deep research and dynamic features on control system, but also establishes theoretical and experimental foundations for engineering design and equipment purchase.
