With the rapid development of power electronics, all sorts of power electronic devices have been used more and more widely in many fields, such as power system, traffic, industry and family, etc. And the problems of harmonic and reactive currents that they bring about are becoming increasingly serious, especially the harm of the harmonic of electronic devices to public power network, which has been paid much attention.Based on the i_p-i_q algorithm of the instantaneous reactive powertheory, the method of the real-time and accurate detection of harmonic in power network with the use of the TMS320F240 DSP is mainly considered in this paper, and some simulations with MATLAB are given. The paper is arranged in the following six sections.The first section introduces the harm of the harmonic in power system, the development of active power filter and the character of DSP.The second section introduces the conventional power theory and instantaneous reactive power theory. Then the existing detection methods of the harmonic are analyzed and compared. Lastly, the αβ(or pq) algorithm and the i_p-i_q algorithm based on instantaneousreactive power theory are expatiated. And the characters of the algorithms are also illuminated.The classifications of APF are introduced in the third section, mainly the parallel APF and the series APF.
