ESL design will receive more attention with the developing of it's tool and IP. This method can make full use of the existing IP and make the system level design as the start point of the SOC chip development. This can also serve as the golden reference for the following hardware design.This paper is based on the ESL platform and implement the part of the X.264 encoder that locate at the bottom layer, much timing cost and calculating quantity, high parallel degree with coprocessor. Specialized instruction set has been developed, including the deblocking filter, the DCT/IDCT, motion estimate and motion compensate algorithm. At last, the function and performance of the system are checked. The enhancement of the system is also verified. It has been proved that the coprocessor can improve 50% of the performance without the loss of the encoding quality. It's a relatively successful method to accelerate the encoder speed.
