As the most representative example of Chinese folk culture, The Mazu culture was selected to discuss in this dissertation. With an objective point of view, culture spectacle, a tendency to over-entertain in culture diffusion and the phenomena of consumerism was taken into consideration. Choosing theories of semiotics, consumption culture and media ritual as reference frame, this dissertation strongly emphasizes on the media ritual, which combined by concept media and ritual of anthropology. How media ritual constructs the culture and how the culture identity in mind of the Mazu culture supporters was reinforced and strengthened were also became the focus of this dissertation. In modern media setting, mass media is a two-edged weapon, therefore, from the perspective of communication, this dissertation tried to provide some useful references on strengthening the role of mass media and the sound development of Chinese folk culture in media setting with more rational.
