The Olympic Games held every four years is a grand sports event, presenting the players from all over the world with a platform to show themselves and to compete with others. At the same time, it also provides a brilliant competition stage for the international media. Since China is the host country of the 2008 Olympic Games, our internal media get many priorities in the planning of the Olympic reporting, the producing of programs and also in the operation of the TV stations. However, all of them have no TV rights to broadcast the Olympic Games except China Central TV, which is the only organization to own the TV rights in the China mainland. Under such circumstance, as the TV station of the host City, how did the Beijing TV station (hereinafter called BTV) report the Olympic Games and by what way it satisfied the watching needs of the Capital citizens is the focus of this research.By the methods of literature reviewing, observing, expert interviewing and logic analyzing, the article did a research on the contents, program resources, program arrangements and the rating of the special Olympic program—" glorious dreams" of the satellite channel of BTV, based on which a comparatively compete picture of the Olympic communication of the satellite channel comes into being. The conclusions are as follows: as a local TV station with no complete TV rights, BTV still fulfilled its reporting work successfully by creating new news recourses, arranging the news resources wisely and setting the programs reasonably. BTV played an active role and fulfilled its function as the host city's TV station with three features in its Olympic reporting: BTV took the advantage of its geography and realized a three-dimensional reporting; It made full use of the resources of all the channels and realized a communication of recourse combination; BTV puts emphasis on the planning of the reporting and tried their best to keep the high-quality of the programs; It also invited many special guests for the dialogue programs; Last but not least, its arrangement of the programs is flexible, and the cooperation with other media benefited it a lot.BTV has achieved a great success in its Olympic reporting, but there are still some problems existing, according to which the writer puts forward the following suggestions for BTV: to have an international view in the reporting of those grand events; to make full use of the information recourse of Xinhua News Agency, and to broaden the coverage of the sport reports ;to strengthen the application of the reporting means of new media, such as internet and mobile phones in order to broaden the news-releasing channel.
