The Application Of Mobile Smart Client Technology In The Computer Supported Cooperative Work System

With the development of communication and information technology,the mobile network has been the direction of the development.Through two decades of development,the collaborative approach of the traditional CSCW has gradually changed from a fixed time at fixed locations to any location at any time.Due to the special nature of mobile networks,mobile devices require a certain capacity of offline processing,as well as the ability to seamlessly switch between online and offline.Mobile Smart Client technology which proposed by Microsoft enables users to work at disconnected or only occasionally connected conditions,at the same time,Smart Client combines the advantages of traditional fat client and thin client architecture,eliminating the shortcomings of them to provide users with the efficiency of fat client and the easy deployment and update of the thin client,as well as the rich and responsive user interface,and very good use of local software and hardware resources,savings development costs and cycle.The Mobile Smart Client technology has brought a new vision and development to the CSCW system, and effectively overcome the limitations of traditional fat client and thin client architecture.This paper analyzes the advantages and shortcomings of traditional fat client architecture and thin client architecture,thus leads up to the definition of Smart Client,then introduces the characteristics of the Smart Client such as make use of local and network resources;support occasionally connected users;provide intelligent deployment and update,etc.Secondly it describes the classification of Smart Client,mainly focuses on the Mobile Smart Client.Thirdly the paper studies the detail technologies in.NET platform to build Mobile Smart Client application, including:connection establishment,data handling,occasionally connection, multi-threaded processing,deployment and update of Smart Client applications and the security of it.And then introduces the concept,architecture,the classification, as well as key technologies of CSCW.On this basis,we proposed a CSCW system model based on Mobile Smart Client application.In the system design,we mainly concern the structure and key technology of the Smart Client,rather than the realization of business logic.Finally,we summarize the application of Mobile Smart Client technology in the Computer Supported Cooperative Work system,and look forward its prospects.
