Integrated Bridge System (IBS) organically integrates the ship's navigation, manipulation, control equipment and radar collision to make ship navigate automatically. However, there is not a good solution to integrate those heterogeneous factors. Generally speaking, it is an ideal way to use of multifunction display and control technology. However, the research of this technology is still in its early age. This thesis aims at designing and realizing a bridge multifunction display and control system software. First, some commercial bridge systems as well as its evolution are introduced briefly. Then, Display console in IBS is described, too. Meanwhile, design ideas and the way of realization of multifunction display and control system are clarified. The thesis analyzes technical requirements and software types based of the multifunction display console, and the characteristics of the navigation information data are also analyzed. Two kinds of databases, real-time database and relational database, are employed to manage navigation information data. Key technical problems in the analysis process, such as data synchronization, data backup, time management, network load balancing and CORBA communication mechanism, are discussed deeply in the thesis. After the analyzing the performance, convenes, and costs, a new approach to implementing a multifunction display console is proposed in the thesis. The approval method uses middleware technology-based data synchronization. Finally, a proto type of multifunction display console is realized, which provides a viable solution reference to the next generation of IBS display console.
