With the computer, electronic and information technology development, the electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) has been came the core equipment of the integrated bridge system(IBS)since the third generation of IBS. ECDIS is a kind of integrated and automatic navigation system. It provides real-time geographic information and nautical knowledge from GPS, radar, some kind of vessel sensors which send the information to the system and electronic chart. It saves the mariners from the strenuous repetitive work, and greatly improves the efficiency of the navigators and maritime safety.The ECDIS technology is one of the IBS’s key technologies. It has caused wide public concern all over the world in the vessel industry. The thesis taking the development of ECDIS as background, analyses and designs the system carefully. The main work of this dissertation can be concluded as follows:At first, the thesis analyses the international standard about ECDIS. The S-57 standard electronic chart model, data structure and the structure and composition of S-52 chart database is studied and analyzed systematically. The electronic chart is displayed and parsed based on those studies designed and implemented. Second, a structure of seven functions is proposed according to the international standard. Object-oriented design methods and loose coupling methods are used to design the system’s software structure. The diversity of the devices is integrated in the ship’s LAN, which realized the unified management of the devices and made the data analyses efficiently. At last, three interfaces namely electronic chart interface, database interface and the analysis of network protocol interface are designed and implemented. It designs particularly the main function models.We also designed a beautiful, high efficiency and easy operation user interface.The design of the ECDIS in the paper realized that the electronic chart was jointed no chink and displayed rapidly and smoothly. It realized particularly the main function models such as chat display model, navigating work model, navigating plans model and navigating monitor model and so on, which meets with the modern auto-navigation. Two redundancy servers are used in the system network structure which makes the system’s data more safely. The network in the system has a good data exchanged and handled ability. Many kinds of design pattern and the developing model of loose coupling is used, which makes the system more stable, taking the reusing of the codes and being easy to upgrading the system considered. Finally ECDIS, which is met with the international standards and can be applied in IBS, is designed and implemented.
