Along with the development of technology and the improvement of manufacture, carpet machine is becoming more and more advanced. In order to produce advanced carpet the new equipment such as tufting carpet machine is being introduced by many companies in China. But the machine imported is too expensive. The price of the machines is almost hundreds thousand and the large ones is even above one million. The cost of the production is increased and the competition is depressed in international market by the high price of machine. So many companies want to carry out the localization of the tufting machine. This design is going to solve the problem under this background.Firstly, this article summarizes the research of control system on tufting machine and illuminates the significance of the research. Through the analysis of the structure a whole design of the machine is presented. In this project the system is controlled by upper and lower machines. The upper machine is PC and the lower one is SCM.Secondly, the upper and lower machines are researched detailedly. There is a man-machine interface edited by VC. The working mode can be chosen and the bitmap can be converted into control signal through this program. There is communication protocol of serial transmission in upper machine and the data can be transferred using the VC controls. The SCM is used as control core in the lower machine. The data is received, stored and transferred through the SCM. In the circuit drive the serial input is converted to 288 parallel output.Finally, this article presents the design of interconnection in the control system. There are simulation in lab and joint test of the whole tufting machine in the plant. During the testing the control system runs steadily and the productions of the tufting carpet meet the requirement of the company.In this design there is some extended space and the control system can be upgraded whenever needed. The production of the carpet proves that the control system of the tufting carpet machine achieves the design requirement.
