Gear is a classical part in mechanical industry, and has widely application in mechanical equipment. Because there are some differences in gear model number and specification, it becomes the key way to design and produce gear by evoking. With the development of 3-D technique of CAD in mechanical industry, the gear design has development in field of integration, automation, and intelligence. The concurrent of gear designing, analyzing and manufacturing makes the time of gear design short, but the current design of gear in a manual way affects the whole efficiency of gear design. In addition, current gear of 3-D modeling has the question of lower precise of tooth profile.For the questions above, a parametrical design system of involutes gear with accurate tooth profile based on SolidWorks is developed by using of VC++6.0 and SolidWorks API. In this system, it can build these involute gears such as straight-tooth helical-tooth cylindrical gear, straight-tooth inner gear, helical-tooth inner gear, straight-tooth gear shaft, helical-tooth gear shaft and shaft.This system is divided into model of gear design, model of gear style, model of parametrical gear, model of auto-formation of tooth profile, model of FEA, and a document for help. The model of parametrical gear and model of auto-formation are key models. They complete calculation of gear parameters, parametrical update of gear model, and auto-formation of tooth profile. Parameterization of whole gear can come true.XML language is used to representing and saving parameters of gear. Secondary development of SolidWorks completes automation of gear modeling. Programming guarantees the precision of tooth profile modeling. Technique of parameterization makes parameterization and serialization of gear modeling come true.This system has run successfully in the company. The running results indicate that this system could reduce repeated work and improve the design efficiency. Also the system has good practicability and conveniences, and improves the company's design responding ability.
