Computer Aided Design (CAD) is a system that provides engineers and designers with carrying on the designing, analysis and drawing for products. The system can help engineers and designers to improve the designing quality of products, decrease the preparing cycles and the cost of products. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is a process that prepared and manufactured by using computer. Along with the development of information technology, CAD/CAM has been a key symbol that scales the modernization level of a country's industry. The designing and manufacture of the products is an indivisible organization. Therefore, in order to be seasoned with the request of organization between designing and manufacture automatization, the advanced compositive CAD/CAM system has been a key developing aspect. Cylinder is one of the execution parts in hydraulic transmission system. It is widely applied in the fields of construction machinery, agricultural machinery, automobile and manufacture machine tool, it works in hydraulic transmission and control system and is unsubstitutble. Along with the development of the society and the advancement of technology, cylinder is confronted with request of high performance, which is related to the whole designing parts in machine industry. So advanced method and idea should be adopted for the designing and manufacture of cylinder. The adopting of compositive CAD/CAM system relates itself to the quality of the whole machine. Designing work of cylinder with high efficiency and rationality is a good method that increases the performance of hydraulic transmission system and then improves the performance of the whole machine. In order to increase the empolder and use efficiency of cylinder compositive CAD software, the design method of secondary development is chosen. Choice of base- software platform with powerful function is a key for the performance of base- software related to that of secondary development professional software. Considering the performance, universality and wide useability, Solidworks, the more popular CAD software platform in the world, is chosen when empoldering the 3D model of the software and the function of automatic generation for engineering drawing. When designing the parameter of software system, OLE automation technology, which is in windows platform, is used to promote the interaction among each application program in windows. Access to Visual Basic database is used and the corresponding parts parameters for cylinder are established. The secondary development for support platform is carried out according to the design characteristic of cylinder. The compositive CAD system provides engineers a simple and convenient method for designing cylinder, which will be important academic meaning and application value, and also redound to decrease the working load of designers, improve the designing quality, decrease the designing cycles, and educe innovation in the designing of cylinder.
