Wireless sensor network, a new generation of sensor network, was formed by the combination of sensors embedded calculation, network and wireless communication technologies. The wireless sensor network is widely applied in military, commercial, medical and environment monitoring fields. The wireless sensor network consists of a large quantity of sensor nodes whose power, calculation ability and bandwidth are so limited that traditional wireless routing protocol is not suitable for wireless sensor network. It is the key point to save power and prolong the lifetime of network in the research of wireless sensor network.LEACH is one of the routing protocols of WSN.LEACH route by clusters and can achieve low energy dissipation and latency. But it is only suitable for small scale WSN because of single-hop communication mode.The research of this thesis is based on the analysis and amelioration of LEACH and its main work include:1. Introduce the WSN and its developing status.2. Introduce and analyze some of the existing routing protocols, includes Flooding, SPIN, Directed Diffusion, LEACH, etc.3. Present a LEACH-EE routing protocol based on LEACH protocol, whose cluster heads communicate with each other by simple multi-hop algorithm to improve load equilibrium, and use NS2 for simulation to prove that the improved algorithm is much better than LEACH in lifetime and load equilibrium4. Present a LEACH-MM routing protocol based on LEACH protocol, which an optimal path is formed among cluster heads which lead to sink by comparison of energy-cost in order to decrease energy cost of cluster heads. At last, use NS for simulation to prove that the improved algorithm is much better than LEACH in energy cost of cluster heads.
