All optical fiber devices based on side-polished fiber (SPF) have attracted a lot of attention in every kind of optical devices. Not only in lab research but also in commercial communications, they are made for optical fiber communication and sensor. They have small size ,high integration and are easy to be fused with optical fiber.The SPF devices need more experimental verification work of contrast and and modification to get better results without theoretical calculation supporting. Simulation analysis may be convenient to change each parameter and come to conclusions that referred to real experiments directly.Considering the D-type fiber boundary condition of SPF, the model of SPF waveguide with polished transition region was put forward. The previous simulation results of side-polished fiber without polished transition region were improved, and new model of side-polished fiber with polished transition region were built, which is more similar to the shape of SPF. Three-dimensional finite-difference beam propagation method was used to compute and analyz the relation between the performance of optical power in SPF with or without polished transition region and some parameters of side polished area, such as the polished length, the thickness of residual cladding of side-polished fiber, wavelength and dimension of polymer overlaid on the polished surface. The results has provided theoretical knowledge for the experimental research of side-polished fiber and related devices.A preliminary analysis of the micro-ring resonator coupling with side-polished fiber was given. The coupling theory was used for micro-ring resonator and side-polished fiber. The design of simulation modle was made exploringly for the micro-ring resonator. The preliminary simulation result of micro-ring resonator coupling with SPF was obtained by finite difference time domain method.Achievements in the study are as follows:1,The optical model of SPF was further improved. New model of SPFwaveguide with polished transition region was put forward, which was more similar to SPF. Calculation and analysis were made by three-dimensional finite-difference beam propagation method.2,Based on the model of SPF waveguide with polished transition region, themode field of SPF, optical power transmission characteristics and the relation between the performance of optical power in SPF and some parameters of side polished area, such as the dimension of SPF, dimension of dimension of polymer overlaid on the polished surface and wavelength of light.
