The issue of low power design in embedded system is perceived as fatal difficulty and is hot discussed recently,especially in battery power system.The development of battery's performance lag so much compared with the need of the embedded device,so low power design is becoming more and more sensible . The purpose of low power design is to minimize the energy consumption of an embedded system and extend the lifetime of battery without losing its performance.This design will describe something in two aspects:hardware and software.Low power design of hardware focuses on low power processor and peripherals and their power supply design.The power supply of processor allows that different voltage supply are available ,meanwhile design at circuit level is useful to boost the efficiency of power transfer.The power supply of peripherals are separated into digital circuit and analog circuit which work together with software to control the on\off of the peripherals.Low power design of software focuses on mechanism of the Linux power management,and the adoptive technology or algorithms are used to dynamically change processor's speed and voltage and to control the peripherals'on\off. Embedded Linux changed from ordinary Linux OS can smoothly run on the embedded system..To the processor's power management,we adopt algorithms and Linux data structure,finally realize the different mode management.To the peripherals,we adopt Linux's peripherals power management and function interface to realize their on\off.
