The technique of radar signal detection, which is one of the most important parts of modern radar signal processing, directly influences the performance of radar detection. Firstly, classical theory of radar signal detection is introduced in this paper. Non-fluctuating target detection in the presence of noise, pulse integration, detection of fluctuating targets and detection of correlating targets are referred to. The probability of detection calculation for fluctuating targets is deducted in detail. According to the mathematical formulations, the performance of the fluctuating targets under non-coherent integration is simulated and compared. Secondly, some background models, familiar mean-level type CFAR processors and OS-CFAR processor are introduced. Background models consist of homogeneous background, regions of clutter power transition and multiple target situations. Mean-level type CFAR processors include cell-averaging CFAR detector, greatest of-CFAR detector, smallest of-CFAR detector etc.. The performance of these processors is simulated under different background. Finally, a high speed digital signal processor based on ADSP-TS101 is introduced, and the engineering implementation of the detection system for moving targets in a Pulse Doppler Radar is discussed.
