On the modern high tech battlefield, concealable attack of weapons, which are used in the electronic war environment, becomes one of the most significant new trends. Passive locating methods, which use the passive mode, have been seen as an important direction, and has concerned by countries all over the world. Compared with active locating methods, single-observer passive location technology has the merits of easy implementation, far distance, concealable and low probability to be detected. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in the fields of electronic surveillance and fire-striking, and it will have abroad applying prospects.This thesis studies a method of single-observer passive location with higher speed and precision,which uses the information of direction and phase difference variations to fulfill the location goal. This method could satisfy current performance requirements, and could implement the aim of real time positioning. When using this method, the measurement information that we should fetch includes the direction information of observation station and the phase difference variations information of radiation wave from radiation source measured by interferometer.In this paper, firstly, the present studies on single-observer passive location and the method with phase difference variations are reviewed, and some kinds of abroad single-observer passive location systems are introduced. Comparing some kinds of current methods,the method of direction-finding and the error analysis are given, both of them are verified by emulation. Secondly, two-dimensional antennas locating principle for phase difference variations is introduced in detail, then the effect of measuring and locating parameter on location precision is analyzed, the factors'influence are exploited in virtue of geometrical GDOP(dilution of precision) graph. Thirdly, the principle of three-dimensional location is introduced; the relation of some special measuring and locating parameters are analyzed, which are emulated by Matlab. In the final, the sum-up and prospect is given of the development of single-observer passive location.
