Passive location has been playing an important role in navigation, aviation, aero space and electronic warfare with its outstanding features such as longer range and better concealment. In the field of electronic warfare, the single airborne observer passive location is an important and difficult problem, which has merits of small equipment and low price. The interferometer direction finding has a high precision and a fast speed, so that the passive location can be realized easily on single observer.Interferometer direction finding obtains the direction of the target with phase difference information of two channels with matching phase. An effective way to advance accuracy that increasing the length of baselines and decreasing the angle between the incident wave and the normal of the baseline is introduced. Multi-line phase interferometer not only increases the direction range but also provides high direction accuracy, and uses the data measured by short baselines to dispel the ambiguities of Angle of Arrival concluded by long baselines. This thesis analyzes the location method, algorithm, accuracy and performance for single observer, introduces the basal principle and the mathematical model of the interferometer direction finding. The measurement accuracy and the approach of solving the phase ambiguity have been discussed in detail. An overview of the research result and the prospect of direction finding are presented at the end of the thesis, which has broad prospects for application.
