As an important element in the field of electronic warfare/electroniccountermeasure, communication electronic warfare/communication countermeasure isthe opposing sides fought over the use and the right of the electromagnetic spectrum inthe field of communications. Communication and data-link system is the infrastructureof supporting the information network, is the nerve center of connecting the sensornetwork、 command and control networks、 fire strike network. Importantcommunication/data-link node are often destroyed and attacked fatally once found andpositioned. So the content of direction finding and location for the importantcommunication and data-link node in the modern communication/data-linkcountermeasure cannot be neglected. Single-observer passive location has the merits oflow probability to be detected, independence and good flexibility, far distance, easy toachieve synergy, is widely used. The location of radiation targets on the ground or sea level fixed or slowly movingby airborne single–station is studied in this article. First of all, the present situation ofresearch and development of single-observer passive location are stated, and severaltypical principle of communication direction finding and location technologies aredescribed, the analysis of position error and observability criterion are given. Then, twomethods of location based on the amplitude ratio and the phase difference are presented. The direction and positioning model and simulation are established in two-dimensionaland three–dimensional situations. The effect of positioning error by the measurementparameters is analyzed, and the GDOP is given. Finally, the work of this article issummarized with the future prospect of the study.
