Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a multihop and self-organized network formed from a large amount of wireless sensor nodes by wireless communication, which can concurrently test, sense, collect, process and transfer information of monitored objects to the terminal users in real time. It demonstrates comprehensive application prospect in many fields, such as military, environment, agriculture, industry and medicine.Typical wireless sensor network is usually made up of sensor nodes, sink node and task manager terminal. The function of sink node is to respond the order of task manager terminal, integrat the data from each sensor node and send them to the task manager terminal. It is a typical kind of embedded system. The sink node is the center node of the wireless sensor network. In this study, the design and achievement of wireless sensor network sink node was introduced. Based on the functional requirements analysis of sink node, PXA255 and embedded Linux were selected as the embedded microprocessor and the operating system of sink node respectively. In this design, the platform for both hardware and software of sink node was established firstly, including the design of the minimum hardware system, Bootloader of operating systems, Linux2.6 kernel establishment and transplanting file system. Based on the above, inner net connection model, outer net connection model and advanced application programs of sink node were designed. Moreover, this sink node can make the communication between inner net and outer of wireless sensor network via Ethernet.
