With the rapid progress of multimedia technology and computer networks, the research and realization of gathering image have been highlighted in embedded systems. Currently, using its powerful processing capability and overall interface to design the image collection card, the equipments of images collection system are mostly based on personal computer.. However, because of his huge size,high costs,inconvenience, personal computers are not suitable for the images collection. In such environment, the dedication to design of a portable image collection system became necessary for the market.At first, this paper introduce the composition of the whole digital camera system and gives a brief introduce of its partial function and the relationship among them, establishes the scheme that based on the NIOSⅡwhich is one technology of SOPC of Altera as arithmetic unit.The following two parts is the central content of this paper that is the hardware design and software design parts. In the system, the hardware is mainly made of processor FPGA and relevant components and sensors. The software is mainly about NIOSⅡ. The program of NIOSⅡis used to gather the high-speed data and save it, and some interface function of OV7660 as well as the program based on H.264.In addition to the completion of the system tasks, three innovations achieved.1. Based on the principle of CMOS digital image sensor, utilizing FPGA to implement OV7660 interface circuit modules, and Nios CPU to control the startup and configuration of collection.2. Transplant H.264 encoding program to NiosⅡ, thus this system advances in low cost, good expandability and wide applicability, which has broad prospects for development.3. Using FPGA to design a VGA interface can send the data directly onto the screen for display discarding the chip for VGA display, which cuts down the process of PC, thus quickening the speed of data process and saving the expense of the hardware.
