With the rapid development of today’s biometric technology, biometricstechnology has been divided into two aspects: on the one hand from the physicalcharacteristics of the human considerations, such as face, fingerprint, palmprintrecognition; on the other hand consider the behavioral aspects, such as sound.Which palmprint recognition compared to other methods, with easy to change,informative, and easy to obtain, etc.Along with today’s image processingtechnology gradually matured, combine palmprint recognition technology withimage processing technology, has become a trend.Now with advances in FPGAtechnology, FPGA logic cell capacity is constantly increasing, making the SOPCtechnology implemented on programmable logic devices possible.In order to meet the real-time image processing palm orientation, andachieve the simplified palmprint ROI positioning algorithm intuitively, this paperselected to build palmprint features ROI positioning system algorithm based onSOPC technology, with system-level design based on FPGA chip to replace thetraditional target board can only be realized in hardware design, making thesystem flexibility. Palmprint features for palmprint area positioning systemincludes image acquisition,image preprocessing, feature areas for positioning andimage display and other processes. The entire system is controlled by NIOSIIsoft-core processor,the image will convert the color and format after the CMOSsensor collected palmprint image,then deposit into SDRAM.Pretreatment theimage by AVALON bus in SDRAM, including binarization, histogramequalization, median filtering, edge detection by hardware design. Where themedian filtering and edge detection is complete modeling algorithms in DSPBuilder module, the post-simulation model to generate file (.mdl), after theadoption of the DSP Builder Signal Compiler model file into a hardware description language VHDL files (.vhd).The improvement ROI positioningalgorithm is implement by ontrol Design Software.At last,NIOSII soft corecontrol VGA display controller, thus completing the design features palm areapositioning system.In this paper, two ways to improve the system, on the one hand to improvethe palmprint ROI positioning algorithm, on the other hand from a platformperspective, the selection is based on SOPC technology to embedded systems.After the experiment, not only to complete the real-time acquisition andpositioning palm of accurate position. Relatively traditional methods to improvethe positioning speed and reduce resource utilization logic devices. Achieved thedesired requirements.
