With the development of digital TV technology, digital TV would eventually take the place of traditional analogue TV. The FPGA and EDA technology bring huge change in electronics system design. This paper applies the FPGA technology in digital TV system, makes research on digital TV front-end system key equipment ——MPEG-2 transport stream multiplexer, and FPGA modeling and implement. First, in this paper, the digital TV actuality, system structure, and FPGA technology are introduced in brief. The importance of MPEG-2 transport stream multiplexer in DTV system is pointed out. Secondly, the paper introduces MPEG-2 system layer standard, the principle and structure of multiplexer, describes how to deal with the PSI in MPEG-2 transport stream multiplexer and how to deal with PCR adjustment. Then, a solution of multiplexer design based on one FPGA chip is introduced, the software and hardware design are explained respectively in details, the FPGA design skills in multiplexer are also described. Lastly, the paper gives a conclusion and prospect on the Digital TV's development. The multiplexer's SOPC design, which integrates software and hardware on one Altera's new cyclone series FPGA chip, brings forward a new concept on embedded system design. It makes this multiplexer system not only simple, but also efficient, and low cost.
