In the construction of telecom network, design and construction of metro area transmittion networ are becoming more important. Especially, there are all kinds of application on it, such as PSTN, ATM/FR, IP, DDN and so on.These applications are based on the SDH network. So we must think over the continuity, compatibility, operation and expansibility of the network in emphases. At the same time, we also think over the demand of VIP, DATA and 3G We must program, construct and manage the metro transmittion networ in union.Aiming at the demand of network construct and application development, this paper analyses the MSTP(Multi-Service Transport Platform) technology ang applications which fit for the SDH network.Firstly, this paper describes the configuration model and characteristic of metro transmition network. We also resesrch the situation, development direction, problem, demand and resolving scheme.Secondly, this paper reaearch the key technology of MSTP, such as Virtual Concatenation, encapsulation technology for MSTP: GFP(Generic Framing Procedure), LCAS(Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme). We discuss how to use these key technologies to complete the node function and model. This paper completes the different applications of the network construction on the base of MSTP technology. We discuss the WRI's cases which used in Shanxi mobile,Shandong Netcom and Guangdong Telecom. They prove the rationality, agility, safety and reliability in metro area construction. At last, this paper researchs the connection of different conpany's devices. We analyse the significance, application and development in future.
