The Design Of Six Channels DVD/VCD Driver

Power management IC becomes more and more important due to popularization of DVD/VCD, High efficiency, low cost and low noise are becoming the development trend of DC_DC regulations. In the DVD/VCD industry, the driver system plays a key role. So the deriver IC becomes more attractive.A six channels DVD/VCD driver is designed in this paper, which based on 2μm BiCMOS process and Cadence EDA design tools. The chip has six channels, it can driver Actuator motor, sled motor and 3 phases motor driver. The chip can meet DVD/VCD required signals. The input voltage rang is 5v to 12v, frequency is 100kHz, temperature rang is -35℃to 85℃, and the power is less than 2.6w. The chip implements a thermal shutdown mechanism when the input voltage is too low, A tightly controlled soft start feature limits inrush currents during the chip activation. At the same time, over current protection can protect from burning of large current. As the actuator motor demands not too high accuracy, so the open-loop control is used. As the actuator motor demands too high accuracy, so the close-loop PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control is used.Firstly, the system design and its block diagram is introduced, give the relation ship of blocks, simulate the sub-circuits by EDA Hspice based on circuit analysis and design, give all circuits simulation result.Secondly, the chip layout is designed by Cadence Virtuoso and Dracula, the area of layout is 5920μm×6100μm.Thirdly, wafer and product are tested by probe platform,track curve,high-temperature test chamber and other equipment, the result show that all parameters are good when power supply is under 9v, output current of sled motor and 3 phases motor driver is too large when power supply is beyond 9v.Finally, according to test result, comparing simulation data with test data, give the solution through PCM (Process Control Monitor) test for the MPW (Multi-project Wafer) tape.
