Grid provides a new way to share the distributed resources on the Internet. It connects the geographically distributed resources and integrates them into a huge virtual super computer to realize the sharing of computing resources, storage resources, information resources and knowledge resources. There are already a variety of grid systems available, but many of these grid systems aim to the specific applications. Their framework and architecture vary significantly, thus it's difficult to share resources between different grid systems. Grid interoperation aims to solve the problem of sharing resources between different gird systems, so that different grid systems can access each other and eventually realizing the resource sharing among various grid systems.In the research and implementation of grid interoperation, information service is one of the key problems. It integrates information resources of different gird systems, and provides a unified resource view for users and other modules. In the practice of the CSGrid Interoperability project, a strategy based on plug-in and virtual layer is designed in the information interoperation, and it's used to interoperate between the two existing grid middleware CGSP and VEGA. This strategy develops a plug-in above the underlying grid system to acquire the resource information. It screens the differences of information systems of the underlying grid systems, and provides the uniform service access interface and application programming interface for end users and job scheduling module. In addition, through the unified information management of the underlying gird systems in the virtual layer, unified service registration and inquiry interfaces are provided for users. Due to the service cache mechanism, the information service is efficient and reliable.The test result shows that the CSGrid information interoperation mechanism based on plug-in and virtual layer can provide the resource information in gird interoperation, and support the interoperation between CGSP and VEGA. Moreover, the added virtual layer and plug-in does not cause significant performance degradation. The test result also shows that the query response time of accessing the CSGrid Portal is increased a little than accessing each one's Portal.
