Radar is an important information source equipment in the VTS system. Data extraction, signal processing and information display are the main functions of radar display system. VTS system achieves the independent management of the surrounding water area using radar equipment. The radar raw video is convenient to monitor the traffic status all around in real time. Radar display system not only ensures the high efficiency of the radar data extracion, but also displays the input video and tracking information intuitively, availably and exactly on the ECDIS.Fast development of the communication technology introduces the new data extraction equipments into the VTS system continuously, such as AIS equipment, but radar system can not be replaced by other equipments because of its particular characteristic. At present, VTS system provides many communication interfaces to transmit the data extracted from radar system to all the display and control terminals. However, for the reason that the VTS system are provided by different suppliers, some important radar data, such as the radar digitized video, only can be used within the equipments that are supported.This paper studies on the development and application of the radar data based on the information transimission system of VTS in use, in order to make full use of the resources in VTS and expand the system functions. First of all, this paper analyzes the methods of data extraction in the VTS system, and focus on the application of the radar data on the network and serial communications combined with several important data types, including shipping dynamic data, static data and radar video data. On the basis of the process of digitizing radar video and the principle of radar echo merging, this paper brings forward a data format of the radar digitized video, which is convenient to be broadcasted on the system network. At last, using the development environment of Visual C++ 6.0, the radar data is extracted successfully via the system network of VTS information transmission based on the electronic chart display platform. The integrated display system of radar data is designed. Finally, it can achieve that the radar digitized video image and tracking targets can overlap with chart graph of ECDIS, and solve the problem that supports the digitized video to be applied on the other equipment except VTS system.
